Horace Dediu crunches the possible numbers of Apple TV’s growth in recent years, based on the announcement Tim Cook Made at Apple’s recent shareholder meeting,
During the latest shareholder meeting Tim Cook revealed that Apple TV sales were above $1 billion in the last fiscal year ending September 2013. The company later clarified that this figure includes device and content sales.
“It’s a little more difficult to call it a hobby these days,” Tim Cook, Apple CEO (via Reuters).
Well said. difficult indeed.
John Gruber noted
Sure, $1 billion is not significant to today’s Apple, but who else in the set-top market is doing $1 billion a year in revenue? Xbox and PlayStation, maybe?
And Yoni Heisler recent reported for TUAW that Half of streaming boxes sold are Apple TV’s. Incredible for Apple’s “hobby”.
Lots of hard-to-compute implications from this milestone, but it’s excited to say the least, as all our cord-cutter eyes get wide with every step forward away from Cable.
