85 Knots: Day 7 – The Nicky

by Paul Creech on Sunday, March 2, 2014

The Nicky is a symmetrical, full, and fashionable knot–one that every man should have in his repertoire. There is nothing special about the Nicky other than that it is simple, quick, and looks good.  It is a full body knot, but not large one–has its curves in the right places. My biggest problem was too much length, because I expected the knot to eat more fabric than it did.  My other problem was how ugly this tie is, and the wrong kind of ugly to be cool for its ugliness.

Add this to your basic list of tie knots. Instructions from the Encyclopedia of Tie Knots. If symmetrical tie knots were classified like Taco Bell’s wonderful hot sauces we would label the Nicky as Mild sauce.  This is a great everyday knot, with a name that implies that it is something edgier and more avant-garde than it is–it should  really just be called the Nick.
